a few words of history
It all began with three entrepreneurs who wanted to bring the benefits of electricity to businesses and residents. Lighting and the establishment of a tramway line linking Begnins to the Gland stop on the Geneva-Lausanne railroad were the first major projects of this era.
After founding the company on March 30, 1899, they began construction of the Avouillons hydroelectric plant, which was inaugurated on November 19 of the same year. The electricity generated enabled the company to replace the petroleum-powered lighting in Gland, Begnins and Vich with electric lanterns, at an annual cost of CHF 30 per lamp. At the same time, electrification was gaining momentum and the network was expanding rapidly.
In 1947, SEIC was bought out by the communities it served, and in 1954, the streetcar line was dismantled to make way for a bus service.
The needs of new industries and the region's growing population necessitate connection to the 40kV high-voltage grid. The transformer station was commissioned in December 1965.
At the end of the 70s, the company diversified its activities to include an interior installation department.
Then, between 1989 and 1994, a cable network was built to serve the 6 shareholder municipalities, as well as Luins and Vinzel.
Since 2011, SEIC has been developing green energy production with the commissioning of a turbine at the Château-Grillet water reservoir and the gradual installation of photovoltaic panels.
In 2012, construction began on Gland's fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, which will be completed in 2022 in the communes of Luins, Vinzel, Dully and Bursinel.
In 2014, to meet the growing demand for electricity, the Côte high-voltage network is being reinforced, and a more powerful transformer station will replace the one built in 1965.
Finally, for the past fifteen years the company has been active in the district heating networks of Burtigny, Begnins and Gland.
