Artistic development of Begnins
On Sunday August 18, 2024, as part of its jubilee celebrations, SEIC gave Begnins the gift of redeveloping the square next to the Esplanade college and the Ecu vaudois, the former terminus of the Gland-Begnins tramway, which was at the origin of the company's foundation.
Vaud-based artist and iron sculptor Etienne Krähenbühl has transformed the benches in the square, creating a line that symbolizes the line between Gland and Begnins. Two spheres mark the two ends of this historic line, and the layout of the wood used for the seats further reinforces this image. The curves, meanwhile, were designed to create meeting spaces.
With this act, SEIC wished to highlight the role played by the commune in its development. As early as 1899, the Avouillons power plant produced the electricity needed to power the streetcar and link the locality, then district head, to the cities of Lausanne and Geneva, via the railway line.
