The end of 3G - what will change in 2025?
3G technology is on its last legs. In Switzerland, telecoms operators, including net+'s partners, plan to phase out this network from mid-2025. The aim is to free up low frequencies for newer, higher-performance networks, such as 4G and 5G.
In practical terms, the end of 3G will mean better indoor coverage and greater efficiency for current networks. But it is not without consequences for some users.
Who's concerned?
People using older mobile devices or those not compatible with VoLTE (Voice over LTE) may no longer be able to make calls once 3G has been switched off. So it's important to check whether your phone is VoLTE-enabled. As a general rule, devices that have been on the market for less than 7 years are.
Our net+ partners are currently identifying the customers concerned, in order to support them in this technological transition. Appropriate replacement solutions will be proposed on a case-by-case basis.
What about connected objects?
This transition doesn't just concern telephones. Some specific equipment, such as connected meters using a SIM card, could also be affected. Here again, alternatives can be envisaged with personalized support.
